It’s in the name… San Diego’s Ocean Beach (O.B.) neighborhood is a quintessential Southern California beach town. As soon as you pull into the city, you’ll realize its vibrant community has embraced a bohemian heritage, pioneered by the surfers who called it home at the turn of the century. Today’s residents carry on the Ocean Beach legacy and continue to make sure its slice of the Pacific coastline remains accessible to all who want to enjoy it… however, uptight squares or those seeking a more sterile experience should probably head elsewhere. O.B. Is easily accessible, located where the I-8 meets the sea at the northern end of San Diego’s Cabrillo peninsula. Despite its ease-of-access, the tourist population here is surprisingly low, allowing the neighborhood to maintain its authenticity and “good vibes only” lifestyle. Ocean Beach is known to some as the “Haight Ashbury” of San Diego. While there are some historic similarities between the two neighborhoods, the reality is that O.B. is truly unique and has no need to stand on the shoulders of a more famous (infamous?) place in order to be seen. So, if you are a laidback free spirit, live and let live individual, come thrive in the humble surf-side town, Ocean Beach.
